"Pedal For My Peeps" is a 350 mile plus Colorado cycling trip designed to raise awareness about an exercise based catastrophic injury recovery center in Denver, Colorado.
SCI Recovery Project in their own words, "SCI Recovery Project is a non-profit organization specializing in providing exercise based recovery programs for individuals who have suffered a spinal cord injury (SCI), stroke, or similar trauma. We understand each injury and individual is different, which is why we provide and administer a custom program to help clients maintain health and wellness while providing optimal functional return."
As a recovering quadriplegic, I have benefited greatly from an exercised based recovery program. Just what seems like a short 7 years ago I broke my 4th cervical vertebrae, was paralyzed from the neck down, and given a 3% chance to ever walk again, let alone move my arms or breathe on my own. Fast forward 7 years and thousands of hours of the proper therapy, I was able to regain the use of my arms and legs again enough to walk (with crutches), live independently, drive, pedal an English racing trike, and do many things I thought I would never be able to do again.
It is this dedication and unwavering commitment to not only my recovery, but my life, from so many people, that has been paramount in me regaining the function I have now. I am extremely humbled by this, and can't think of a better way to say thank you, other than to pedal, with new legs, to spread the word of the work that SCI Recovery Project has done for not only me but continues to do for many others as well.
Please join me from September 26th through October 10th, to show your support either by riding with me, by making a direct pledge to SCI Recovery Project, or by attending SCI Recovery Project's annual fundraiser "Hops For Hope" on October 21st. It is with your support, your understanding, and your love, that we can stop and possibly reverse the secondary effects of catastrophic injuries.
This is why I ride...I ride for them...I ride for my peeps!
